Of special note, each piece of beadwork is handcrafted
in Guatemala by talented Mayan Indian women and primarily made
from Czechoslovakian and Japanese glass beads. Other components
of these designs include Austrian crystals, Guatemalan milagros,
fresh water pearls and semi-precious stones.
The beaders are treated with respect and work in a safe
and clean environment. In addition, women with children to care
for can work in their homes.
When purchasing the beads and materials used to create
the jewelry, a portion of the payment is donated to SIEMBRA,
an ecological group that works to save the highland forests where
many of the jewelry crafters live.
